Curry Project Management (now In8) led the technical investigation, detailed design and off-site testing of a new air scour system for the Dajarra Water Treatment Plant, including feasibility, HAZOP, procurement and commissioning support.

Project Overview

Curry Project Management led the investigation, design, and potential installation of a new air scour system at the Dajarra Water Treatment Plant. This project aimed to improve filtration efficiency and plant performance by introducing an air scour system that enhances the cleaning of filter media. The scope of work included detailed engineering, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), equipment procurement and delivery, and, pending feasibility and financing, site installation and commissioning.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Feasibility study and system design: CPM initiated the project with a feasibility study to assess the viability of the air scour system, followed by comprehensive design, including HAZOP and other safety assessments to ensure optimal integration with existing plant operations.
  • Engineering and technical deliverables: CPM produced critical engineering deliverables, such as equipment specifications, integration schematics, and operational guidelines, to ensure seamless installation and functionality.
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT): Before site delivery, CPM oversaw FAT to verify that all equipment met rigorous safety and performance standards. This preemptive testing helped to ensure a reliable installation phase.

Specific Responsibilities under the Contract

  • CPM was responsible for managing the feasibility study and subsequent design phase, ensuring that the proposed system met the plant’s operational needs. This included preparing engineering deliverables and facilitating HAZOP meetings to ensure safety and compliance.
  • The project involved sourcing critical components, including cartridge filters, dosing pumps, a feed pump, and PlantConnect® remote monitoring systems. CPM managed the procurement process to ensure high-quality equipment that adhered to industry standards and operational requirements. Delivery logistics were also coordinated to maintain the project timeline.
  • Should installation be approved, CPM would oversee on-site supervision, coordinating contractor activities to integrate the new system with minimal operational disruption. Site commissioning by Osmoflo, a necessary step for process guarantees, would be managed to ensure system functionality and optimal performance.
  • CPM handled all submissions for regulatory compliance, ensuring that design, testing, and final commissioning adhered to local and industry standards. This included environmental and safety considerations critical to water treatment operations, supported by comprehensive reporting and coordination with authorities for smooth approval processes.

Procurement, Delivery and Site Management

The project required meticulous management of procurement and delivery processes to keep operations on schedule and within budget. CPM handled equipment sourcing and supplier coordination, selecting qualified vendors through a structured tender process. By actively overseeing the delivery phase, CPM ensured that all components, including high-performance cartridge filters, dosing pumps, and monitoring systems, arrived on-site without delay. On-site, CPM managed contractor performance, daily operations, and safety protocols, minimising disruption to the plant’s routine operations.

Submissions and Compliance

CPM ensured that all submissions met regulatory and industry standards, managing the approval process for design, testing, and final commissioning. Compliance included safety and environmental standards essential to water treatment facilities, with detailed reporting for HAZOP meetings and technical documentation. Regular submissions to stakeholders allowed CPM to maintain transparency, while close collaboration with local authorities ensured smooth approvals.

Contractor Coordination

CPM maintained close coordination with contractors, overseeing each project phase from site preparation and equipment installation to FAT and final commissioning. By managing all subcontractor activities, CPM ensured safety, adherence to specifications, and timely completion. Regular coordination meetings allowed CPM to monitor progress and address any challenges promptly.

As-Built Construction Data

CPM required that contractors maintain precise as-built records, documenting equipment locations, installation adjustments, testing outcomes, and PlantConnect® setup details. These records were compiled electronically to facilitate future audits and maintenance, ensuring compliance with operational standards and providing essential references for long-term plant management.

This rigorous approach to project management allowed CPM to deliver a project aligned with Dajarra Water Treatment Plant’s goals for enhanced filtration efficiency and operational reliability.
