Florence Clark Park Redevelopment
End-to-end construction management for the transformation of a regional park into a modern, multi-use recreation and community space in Cloncurry, QLD.
In8 (formerly Curry Project Management) provided construction management services for the Florence Clark Park Redevelopment in Cloncurry. The project upgraded and revitalised the park to enhance community facilities and create a vibrant public space, including new amenities, water play elements, play spaces, pathways and landscaping. In8 coordinated demolition, new construction and installation of specialist recreational equipment to deliver a high-quality outcome for the community.
Project Overview
Before rebranding as In8, Curry Project Management was engaged to manage construction of the Florence Clark Park Redevelopment. The project transformed an ageing park into a contemporary community hub, incorporating water play, new amenities, play equipment, skate elements, shaded gathering spaces and improved circulation and landscaping. In8 managed the works from demolition of redundant infrastructure through to commissioning and handover.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Managing demolition of the existing toilet block and construction of new toilet and shower facilities to modernise park amenities.
- Overseeing installation of new playground equipment, skate furniture and an educational cycle area to create a multi-use space for children and families.
- Coordinating installation of pathways, lighting, landscaping and irrigation systems to enhance amenity, safety and accessibility.
- Managing construction of a waterpark within the pool precinct and a splash pad within the park precinct, introducing water-based recreation.
- Overseeing construction of a gazebo and stage, BBQ facilities and seating areas to support events and community gatherings.
Specific Responsibilities Under the Contract
The project management team was tasked with:
- Managing demolition of the existing toilet block and construction of modern toilet and shower facilities that improved amenity and complied with accessibility and safety standards.
- Supervising installation of new playground equipment and skate furniture, ensuring safety compliance, durability and alignment with Council’s design intent and community needs.
- Overseeing construction of an educational cycle area and arbour structures, providing interactive learning and shaded spaces within the park.
- Managing delivery of the waterpark and splash pad, including hydraulic, structural and safety considerations and integration with both the park and adjoining pool precinct.
Procurement and Delivery
In8 (then Curry Project Management) managed procurement to ensure high-quality construction and landscaping outcomes:
- Conducting a structured tender process to appoint qualified contractors and specialist suppliers for playgrounds, splash pads, waterplay equipment and landscaping.
- Engaging local contractors and suppliers wherever possible to support regional economic outcomes and efficient delivery.
- Undertaking regular site visits to monitor progress, verify quality and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Submissions and Compliance
In8 managed the submissions process to ensure:
- All required documentation – design plans, shop drawings, work schedules, test results and as-built records – were submitted to Cloncurry Shire Council and relevant stakeholders.
- All works adhered to safety and environmental regulations, public open-space design standards and applicable playground and waterplay guidelines.
Contractor Coordination
The project management team coordinated contractors to:
- Safely demolish the old toilet block and construct new toilet and shower facilities in accordance with design specifications and WHS requirements.
- Install playground equipment, skate furniture and the educational cycle area correctly, including foundations, impact-attenuating surfaces and safety clearances.
- Manage installation of the waterpark, splash pad, pathways, lighting, irrigation and landscaping to achieve an integrated, high-quality finish across the park.
As-Built Construction Data
In8 ensured detailed as-built records were maintained throughout the redevelopment, including:
- Documentation of the new amenities building, waterplay infrastructure, playground equipment and park structures.
- Layouts of services, irrigation, lighting and pathways to support future maintenance and upgrades.
- Photographic evidence and inspection records demonstrating that works met design specifications and quality requirements.
As-built data was submitted to Cloncurry Shire Council, ensuring full compliance with contract requirements and providing a robust record for ongoing asset management.
Reporting and Acquittal
In8 also managed reporting and acquittal obligations, including:
- Regular progress reports tracking construction activities, installation of equipment and landscaping, as well as budget and timeline performance.
- A final completion report including as-built documentation, cost reconciliation and photographic evidence of the completed park.
Outcomes
The Florence Clark Park Redevelopment successfully transformed the park into a modern, multi-use recreational space offering waterplay, playgrounds, skate elements, BBQ areas and an event-ready gazebo and stage. Delivered under the stewardship of In8 (previously Curry Project Management), the project provides a high-quality, durable community asset that will serve as a hub for recreation and gatherings for years to come.
